Geregu Power PLC has announced a significant leadership transition, naming Engr. Mohammed Sani Jaoji as its Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective August 17, 2026. This move, disclosed in a regulatory filing to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), marks the company’s second major executive shakeup in just seven months as the power producer grapples with a volatile operational landscape.

Engr. Jaoji’s appointment follows the conclusion of the tenure of Sean Manley, who served as Interim CEO from February 2, 2026, until August 14, 2026. The Board of Geregu Power expressed its gratitude to Mr. Manley for his contributions during a period of transition. The new acting head, a mechanical engineer and registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), brings over three decades of industry experience to the role. His background includes a stint as Technical Assistant to the Minister of Power (2019–2023) and previous leadership roles within Geregu Power itself.

This leadership change occurs against a backdrop of mounting operational and financial pressures. The company has recently faced scrutiny following reports of difficulties in meeting certain debt obligations, contributing to a challenging period for its market valuation, with the stock reportedly languishing near 52-week lows. The Board has signaled that Engr. Jaoji’s mandate is to provide stability and strengthen the company’s governance structure while a search for a substantive, permanent Chief Executive Officer continues.

As the company navigates these headwinds, the appointment is subject to the formal approval of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Moving forward, investors and industry stakeholders will be closely watching whether this internal shift can effectively pivot the company’s growth strategy and restore confidence in its long-term financial stability.
